Furniture-X Initiators

Things are starting to move in the circular economy. The inaugural meeting of FURNITURE-X took place in Cologne on February 29, 2024. The initiators of Furniture-X are leading associations and organizations in the furniture and interior design industry that are jointly shaping the widespread introduction of the digital product passport. They are combining practical and standardization expertise to drive the digital transformation forward in a sustainable manner. Read more about the individual initiators here.

The associations & umbrella initiatives

• As the umbrella organization for manufacturers, the VDM represents all sectors of the industry nationally and internationally.
• The German Retail Association for Home and Office Furnishings (BVDM) represents the interests of around 8,500 specialist retailers in the industry.
• The Mittelstandsverbund/ZGV represents commercial associations. All relevant associations in the industry coordinate their activities there in the Furniture & Kitchen specialist group.

Data Competence Center

• Organizer of standardization committees in all relevant industry sectors such as home furniture, kitchen, and bathroom.
• Designer of the globally used Integrated Data Model (IDM).
• Associated project partner in furnFUSION.
• Active member of DIN/DKE for DPP.
• ECLASS expert group for furniture and derived models.

Integrated Worlds (IWOfurn)

• Operates IWOfurn as an established platform for data exchange
• Open concept and interfaces to all relevant system providers
• Pioneer for SME-compatible operating models in the industry with services for active networking of all companies
  Implementation partner for furnFUSION
• Networks more than 1,000 companies in daily business (65 million transfers/year)

Data Competence Center

• Strong focus on the digital circular economy and resulting business models
• Involved in the development of DPP and data rooms across various industries
• Advising the EU Commission and German federal government on these topics
• Active in standardization activities related to DPP and the circular economy

• Development of business models in scientific and entrepreneurial contexts
• Analysis and design of application-oriented and circular ecosystems
• Integration of enterprise application systems (ERP, MES)
• Support for SMEs in low-threshold entry into the GAIA-X world (e.g., URANOS-X)
